Sangagiri Fort

Sankagiri Fort is a historical fort maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. It is located 22 km from the city of Erode and 38 km from Salem.  Fort was built in the 15th Century by the Vijayanagar Empire. It has 12 fort walls built on and built by the British. The fort served as a British tax storage facility for Kongu Nadu. It was an important military base for Tippu Sultan and later for the British army.  This is because only one side of the hill is climbable, as all the others are too steep to climb. This has a death well, granary, two masjiths, 2 Varadhraja Perumal temples, former British Army administrative buildings, and cemeteries formerly used by armies that were stationed at the fort. Dheeran Chinnamalai was hanged by British in this fort.


YERCAUD :Yercaudlakeimage

Yercaud is a hill station near Salem, in the Servarayan range of hills (anglicized as Shevaroys) in the Eastern Ghats. It is at an altitude of 1515 metres (4969 feet) above the see level. The total extent of Yercaud Taluk is 382.67 Sq.kms. including Reserve Forest. The entire Taluk is a Township. Yercaud has also a Panchayat Union with its Head Quarters at Yercaud and its Jurisdiction is the same as for Yercaud Taluk. Popular as the “Poor man’s Ooty”. Yercaud is one of the low cost hill station destination in India.

The Park is situated next to Lake. It is typical park used to host the “Flower Show” in the month of May. The “Japanese Park” inside Anna Park is a must see. The entrance ticket adult Rs.15/- children’s Rs.10/-, Video Camera Rs.50/- Still Camera Rs.25/-

Bear’s Cave:Beers Cave image

The main part of the cave is situated about 7 feet below the ground level and contains a deeper gorge which is believed by the local people to lead up to the cave situated in the Shervaroyan Temple.

Horticultural Farm   Saplings of various plants are available at reasonable price. Entrance ticket Rs.30/-for adult and Rs.50/- for Camera.

Botanical Survey of India:

Well maintained Botanical Garden by the BSI contains a rich collection of plants. A “Bell Rock” in the BSI campus makes bell sound when you hit with stone.

Killiyur Falls:

Pagoda Point:

Pagoda Point imageThis lies on the Eastern side of the Yercaud hills and is also known as Pyramid point. Today there is a Rama Temple which lies between this Pagoda. One can get a grand view of Attur and Ayothiapattinam from this picnic spot. It is   5 km from the town.

Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple:

Mettur Dam

மேட்டூர் அணை – வரலாறு

காவிரி ஆற்றின் குறுக்கே சேலம் மாவட்டம், மேட்டூரில் மேட்டூர் அணை 1925 ஆம் ஆண்டு துவங்கி  1934 ஆம் ஆண்டு கர்னல் W.M எல்லீஸ் அவர்களின் வடிவமைப்பின்படி ரூ4.5 கோடி மதிப்பீட்டில் கட்டிமுடிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த அணை கட்டப்பட்ட சமயத்தில் இதுதான் உலகிலேயே உயரமான நேர்கோட்டில் அமைந்த நீர்த்தேக்கமாகும்.

மேட்டூர் அணையின் மூலம் தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ள 12 மாவட்டங்களில் சுமார் 16.05 இலட்சம் ஏக்கர் நிலங்கள் பாசன வசதி பெறுகிறது. மேட்டூர் அணை மற்றும் காவிரி ஆற்றிலிருந்து பல மாவட்ட பொதுமக்களின் குடிநீர், கல்வி நிறுவனங்கள் மற்றும் தொழிற்சாலைகள் பயன்பாட்டிற்காகவும் தண்ணீர் எடுத்து பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

மேட்டூர் அணையிலிருந்து தண்ணீர் திற்கும்போது அணை மற்றும் சுரங்க மின் நிலையம் மூலம் 250 மெகாவாட் மற்றும் காவிரி ஆற்றில் 7 கதவணை மின் நிலையங்கள் மூலம் மொத்தம் 210 மெகாவாட் மின் உற்பத்தி செய்யப்படுகிறது.

மேட்டூர் அணை கட்டிமுடிக்கப்பட்டு 83 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பிறகு முதன்முதலாக அணையின் நீர்பரப்பு பகுதியில் படிந்துள்ள வண்டல் மண்ணை விவசாயிகளுக்கு இலவசமாக வழங்கும் திட்டம் மாண்புமிகு தமிழ்நாடு முதலமைச்சர் அவர்களால் 28-05-2017 அன்று துவக்கப்பட்டு விவசாயிகள் பயனடைந்து வருகின்றனர்.

Nature's lap - Muttal


The Muttal Village is situated about 15km away from Attur in the Attur-Mullaivadi road, the waterfalls situated in the spot called Aaniavari in the Forest area about 3km away from the village.

The heavy flow of water in the Aanaivari water falls in Muttal village in Attur forest range and the special arrangements made by the Forest Department has been attracting a large number of tourists from across the Western districts.

The Forest Department has developed the waterfalls situated in a picturesque highly location into a tourist spot has take efforts to maintain the waterfalls and the surrounding areas.

The Kalvarayan Hills experience rain fall during both the South West and North East Monsoon. The Forest Department converted this area into a tourist spot. The water flowing from the hills through the falls reaches the local lake in village. The Department has also introduced merry boating facility in the lake, for the benefit of the visitors.

The Forest Department is operating vehicle to enable the tourists to reach the waterfalls from the lake. The precautionary measures has been taken for the tourists by providing Life-Jackets during the boat ride. A fee of Rs.20 for the adults and Rs.10 for the Children is collected for boating.


The Forest Department has also constructed rooms on the bank of the lake and they are seeing offered to the tourists at reasonable rate.
